Keep Them Grinding

Five essential maintenance practices to maximize spindle life and edge quality.

Inspect all grinding and polishing wheels for wear, chips, or glazing. Check diamond wheel segment height and replace when below minimum. Inspect polishing wheel surface for loading — dress or replace as needed.

Check coolant concentration and pH level (target 7.0–8.5). Clean or replace filter cartridges in the 3-stage filtration system. Inspect coolant nozzles for blockages and flush lines with clean water.

Verify spindle alignment using a precision straightedge and dial indicator. Check for bearing play by grasping each spindle and checking for lateral movement. Realign or replace bearings as needed.

Inspect conveyor belt tension, alignment, and surface wear. Check all drive motor mounts, couplings, and gearboxes for looseness or oil leaks. Lubricate all linear guides and ball-screw bearings.

Perform a complete machine calibration using laser alignment tools. Verify edge parallelism, thickness accuracy, and spindle speed across all heads. Update PLC software and HMI profiles. Conduct full safety system test.

The standard configuration has 10 spindles per side (20 total). Professional and Enterprise configurations offer 12 or 13 spindles per side (24–26 total). More spindles allow finer grit progression and higher-quality edge finishes.

The machine processes glass from 3mm to 25mm thickness. Servo-driven automatic thickness adjustment (Professional/Enterprise) allows quick changeover without manual intervention — the HMI stores preset profiles for instant recall.

With 10 spindles/side, you get semi-finish to light polish quality. With 12–13 spindles/side, full polish edge quality is achievable. The final edge finish depends on the number of polishing spindles, wheel grit sequence, and processing speed.

Processing speed is up to 15 meters per minute, depending on glass thickness, edge profile, and finish quality. The variable-speed conveyor automatically adjusts to match the optimal speed for each glass configuration.

Standard installation takes 5–7 days including mechanical setup, electrical connection, water system commissioning, PLC programming, and operator training. Our engineers also assist with upstream and downstream line integration.

Daily wheel inspection, weekly coolant system service, monthly spindle alignment check, quarterly conveyor and drive service, and annual full calibration. Detailed maintenance schedules are provided in the operation manual.
