Complex edge profiles demand wheels that follow CNC-programmed paths with micron-level accuracy. Peripheral wheels with electroplated or resin-bonded diamond layers can be profiled to bullnose, ogee, half-round, or any custom edge shape — the wheel becomes a negative of the desired profile. The narrow 2–5mm contact zone traces curves, corners, and intricate geometries that flat-face wheels cannot process.

Aggressive profiling & shapingA single layer of diamond grit is bonded to a steel core using nickel electroplating. Electroplated peripheral wheels hold complex profiles best and are the go-to choice for shaping and profiling operations.
Resin Bonded
Ultra-fine finishing & polishingDiamond grit is embedded in a thermosetting resin matrix (typically phenolic or polyimide). The softer resin wears away more quickly than metal, constantly exposing fresh, sharp diamond crystals. This produces the finest surface finish of any bond type — edges so smooth they appear polished without chemical treatment.

Peripheral wheels need more frequent dressing than segmented wheels. The narrow contact zone wears faster and loses profile accuracy. Dress weekly or when quality drops.
Use a profile gauge to verify the wheel maintains its intended shape. Worn profiles produce incorrect edge geometry on the glass.
Peripheral wheels operate at 2–8m/min — slower than other types. Don't increase feed speed to compensate for wear; it accelerates profile degradation.
Glass particles accumulate in profile grooves. Clean with compressed air after each shift to maintain profile accuracy.
Store peripheral wheels vertically to prevent the contact zone from developing flat spots under the wheel's own weight.
