A single layer of diamond grit is bonded to a steel core using nickel electroplating. Diamond grit is embedded in a thermosetting resin matrix (typically phenolic or polyimide). The softer resin wears away more quickly than metal, constantly exposing fresh, sharp diamond crystals. Peripheral wheels need more frequent dressing than segmented wheels. The narrow contact zone wears faster and loses profile accuracy. Dress weekly or when quality drops.

Use a profile gauge to verify the wheel maintains its intended shape. Worn profiles produce incorrect edge geometry on the glass.

Peripheral wheels operate at 2–8m/min — slower than other types. Don't increase feed speed to compensate for wear; it accelerates profile degradation.

Glass particles accumulate in profile grooves. Clean with compressed air after each shift to maintain profile accuracy.

Store peripheral wheels vertically to prevent the contact zone from developing flat spots under the wheel's own weight.
